The surface of cable bridge is often brushed with fire retardant paint to achieve the purpose of fire prevention, but from the engineering practice of Shandong Cable Bridge Company, this method is unreliable!

1. Thickness of Fireproof Coatings

Brushing fire-retardant coatings for cable bridge can refer to CECS 24:90 of "Technical Specification for Application of Fire-retardant Coatings for Steel Structures" and draw on some experience of steel structures. The thickness of fire retardant coatings is closely related to the fire resistance limit, as shown in Table 1. The problem arises. Table 1 is no problem for steel structure. The thickness of coating is very small compared with the size of steel structure. The material used for cable bridge is only a few millimeters thick. The thickness of medium-thick coating can reach up to 50 mm (corresponding to the fire resistance limit of 3 hours). How can such a thick coating be brushed onto thin cable bridge?

2. loopholes in site construction

Brushing fire-retardant coatings requires site construction. The uniformity of paint brushing is related to the fire-retardant effect, which is related to the technical level and responsibility of workers. In addition, the bridge is generally installed first, after installation, near the corner of the wall, beam and column, other pipelines, and suspenders are prone to dead angle, it is not easy to brush paint.

When the coated bridge is finished, it is easy to damage the coatings when laying cables or installing other pipelines, thus losing the fire protection effect and affecting the protection effect.

3. Failure to detect fire protection performance

Because of the above reasons, the fire-proof coatings of site brushes can not detect their fire-proof performance, unlike finished products, which are inspected and tested when they are out of the factory, there are also inspections by state authorities.

To sum up, it is difficult to ensure the fire-proof effect of brushing fire-proof coating on the site of cable bridge, so it needs to be used cautiously.
